Coding Notes

At least part of the pulmonary blood flow is derived from systemic-to-pulmonary collateral arteries that are highly variable in number, and that usually arise from the descending thoracic aorta, but uncommonly may originate from the aortic arch or the subclavian, carotid or even the coronary arteries. There may or may not be native pulmonary arteries which, if present, may be hypoplastic, and either confluent or non-confluent. This term is intended to exclude patients with systemic to pulmonary artery collaterals and "Tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia" since they are coded using the term “Tetralogy of Fallot with pulmonary atresia and systemic-to-pulmonary collateral arteries”.
