A congenital cardiovascular malformation in which there is an arterial duct (ductus arteriosus) that is not in its expected position between the aorta or arch vessels and the pulmonary arterial circulation.

While in the setting of a left aortic arch the arterial duct is expected to arise from the concavity of the aortic arch, in the case of a right aortic arch it can normally be expected to arise from the base of the innominate (brachiocephalic) artery.
