IPCCC Term Restrictive interatrial communication or intact atrial septum when an interatrial shunt is physiologically necessary
IPCCC Code 05.06.04
ICD-11 MMS LA8E.Y
ICD-11 Code 499082002

Definition

A cardiac finding in which there is either absence of an interatrial communication or the communication is smaller than is required to permit physiologically adequate interatrial flow.

Synonyms/Abbreviations

Restrictive interatrial communication in the presence of an obligatory interatrial shunt; Restrictive interatrial communication or intact atrial septum in the presence of an obligatory interatrial shunt

STS-EACTS-derived IPCCC term

Atrial septal abnormality, Restrictive interatrial communication or intact atrial septum when an interatrial shunt is physiologically necessary

EPCC-derived IPCCC term

Restrictive interatrial communication or intact atrial septum when an interatrial shunt is physiologically necessary

ICD-11 MMS code or crossmap

LA8E.Y*: This ICD-11 Foundation term appears in ICD-11 MMS only as an index term under “Other specified congenital anomaly of atrial septum". If using MMS to code, the Foundation term can be crossmapped to LA8E.Y

ICD-10 MMS code or crossmap

Q21.1**: This Foundation term is not in ICD-10. If using ICD-10 to code, crossmap to "Atrial septal defect" with code Q21.1

Parent

Congenital anomaly of atrial septum

Siblings

Coding Notes

This is always an abnormal finding prenatally but is a postnatal finding that should only be coded when present prenatally or when associated with other cardiac abnormalities that result in physiological disturbances secondary to the absence of a larger interatrial communication (such as mitral or tricuspid valve atresia).
