IPCCC Definition A congenital cardiac malformation in which there is one or more small, clinically insignificant ventricular septal defect(s) in the absence of flow-related cardiac chamber dilation or abnormal elevation of pulmonary arterial pressure.
This heart is viewed from posterior to anterior and has been sectioned to demonstrate all four chambers and the septal structures. The image shows the anterior half of the heart with a small, slit-like, mid septal, muscular ventricular septal defect (interventricular communication).
