AEPC Derived Term:

Doubly committed subarterial VSD + muscular posterior inferior rim (07.12.02)

EACTS-STS Derived Term:

VSD, Type 1 (Subarterial) (Supracristal) (Conal septal defect) (Infundibular), Juxtaarterial, Doubly committed, With muscular posterior inferior rim (07.12.02)

Definition:  A doubly committed subarterial VSD that is not contiguous with the membranous septum

Common Synonyms:  pending

Modality: Anatomic specimen

Orientation: Right ventricular outflow tract view

Description:  Looking into the opened right ventricular outflow tract from an anterior, apical perspective, the tricuspid valve guards the inlet and the pulmonary trunk the outlet. The ventricular septal defect is doubly committed and juxta-arterial with fibrous continuity (red dots) between the pulmonary and aortic valve leaflets forming the roof of the defect. Note the postero-inferior muscular rim (yellow dots) that separates the leaflets of the tricuspid and aortic valves and will protect the conduction axis. Because of the postero-inferior muscular rim, this defect is not perimembranous.

Modality: Anatomic specimen

Orientation:  Left ventricular view

Description:  The left ventricular view of the doubly committed and juxta-arterial ventricular septal defect seen in the left panel, demonstrates the aortic valve at the roof of the defect. From this aspect, is clearly subarterial, although, the pulmonary to aortic fibrous continuity (red dots) is not as easily visualized.
