Orientation: Four chamber view

Description: This anatomical specimen, from a patient who had undergone an atrial switch operation, was sectioned in a four-chamber fashion, shows the same structures observed in the echocardiographic image shown in the right panel.  The right ventricle is hypertrophic and dilated compared to the left ventricle.  The ventricular septum is intact.  The double-headed arrow shows the pulmonary venous pathway.  The asterisk shows part of the systemic venous pathway draining above the mitral valve.  (LV-left ventricle, PV-pulmonary veins, RA-right atrium)
