Modality: Anatomic specimen Orientation: Right atrial view into ventricles Description: The morphologically right atrium and right ventricle (RV) have been opened allowing for a clear view of the atrial and ventricular septum. The upper portion of the atrial septum is well formed with a secundum atrial septal defect (ASD). The superior caval vein (SCV) is in its usual position as is the coronary sinus (CS). There is a complete atrioventricular septal defect, the superior bridging leaflet (SBL) adherent to the crest of the ventricular septum. The inferior bridging leaflet (IBL) is free-floating with only a few cords attaching it to the right aspect of the crest of the septum. This atrioventricular septal defect is unbalanced, slightly smaller on the left. The left component of this common atrioventricular valve (AVV) has a double orifice.
