Modality: Anatomic specimen Orientation: Short axis view Description: This view of the base of the heart nicely demonstrates the characteristic phenotypic features of a common atrioventricular connection. The aorta (A) is no longer wedged between the right and left atrioventriuclar junctions. The atrioventricular junction is guarded by a common valve that is composed of five leaflets. The superior (SBL) and inferior (IBL) bridging leaflets extend across the interventricular septum (red dots). The yellow arrows mark the remnant of the atrial septum. (PT-pulmonary trunk, RA-right atrium, LA-left atrium, CS-coronary sinus). Contributor: Diane E.
