Modality: Anatomic specimen Orientation: Cephalo-caudal Description: This complete, double aortic arch is seen from above and encircles the trachea (T) and esophagus (E). The left aortic arch (LAA) is dominant and the arterial ligament is on the left. The left subclavian (LSA), the left common carotid (LCC), the right common carotid (RCC) and right subclavian (RSA) arteries all originate directly from the respective aortic arches. The right (RAA) and left aortic arches join posterior to the esophagus to form the descending aorta. Modality: Cardiac MRI images (gadolinium-enhanced MR angiography) Orientation: Coronal slices, volume-rendered 3D Description: This set of images demonstrate both the raw coronal images and a volume-rendered 3D representation from an 11 year old patient with mild dysphagia. The anatomy shown is very similar to that in the preceding image from an anatomic specimen. This is a complete, double aortic arch, encircling trachea and esophagus. The left arch is dominant.
