A window in the right ventricle (RV) of this heart with a common arterial trunk (CAT) demonstrates a ventricular septal defect (VSD) beneath the leaflets of the truncal valve. The inferior limb of the septomarginal trabeculation (red arrow) is fused with the ventriculo-infundibular fold along the right ventricular margin of the defect producing discontinuity between the tricuspid valve (TV) and the truncal valve. (SCV-superior caval vein, LAA-left atrial appendage)

Anterior, close up view of the common arterial trunk (CAT) shown in CAT1a. The right (RPA) and left (LPA) pulmonary arteries have separate origins from the posterior aspect of the common trunk. The left coronary orifice (LCO) lies between the truncal valve and the right pulmonary artery. The truncal valve is tricuspid and is not thickened. (SCV-superior caval vein, RAA-right atrial appendage, LAA-left atrial appendage)

Posterior view of the common arterial trunk (CAT) shown in CAT1a and 1b. The separate origins of the right (RPA) and left (LPA) pulmonary arteries from the common arterial trunk are easily appreciated. The pulmonary veins (PV) drain to the left atrium in the usual fashion. The common trunk arches to the left. (SCV-superior caval vein)
