Modality: Anatomic specimen

Orientation: Four chamber view

Description: This simulated four chamber echocardiographic view, again from the heart sectioned to produce the images shown in A010100-137a and A010100-138a  is taken even more inferiorly. It shows the the fibrofatty extension from the inferior atrioventricular groove makes up the ‘meat’ of the so-called atrioventricular muscular sandwich. The antero-inferior muscular buttress of the atrial septum forms the atrial boundary of the sandwich, which is based on the muscular ventricular septum. Note the normal offset of the atrioventricular valves, the tricuspid valve (red arrow) in a more apical position than the mitral valve (yellow arrow).
